Clothing and Fashion – Waste and Junk?

What happens to all the clothing, textiles, and other items we stop using and either throw away or send for recycling or other forms of reuse? Does it end up in incinerators or in landfills in distant countries? How can we make better use of what we already have?

Freyr Eyjólfsson reflects on these and other questions in a talk about how we can improve our lives while also improving the world, as the circular economy is the simplest, most effective, and least expensive climate action. Changing our mindset and behavior in that direction can make our lives better. The circular economy is also about national security, efficiency, sustainability, and public health.
Freyr Eyjólfsson has many talents; he is, among other things, a musician, media professional, and project manager at Sorpa, as well as an enthusiastic advocate of the circular economy.
The City Library is participating in a three-year international project called make-a-thek. The aim of the project is to create a platform for creative and forward-thinking consumers (“prosumers”), where knowledge is shared and we learn together new methods—for example, how to repair textiles—and explore various crafts and techniques. This is a journey, and the destination is shaped by the participation of as many people as possible.
The project is funded by the European Union.
