PROTOJE’s hits include Who Knows, Rasta Love, Kingston be wise, Switch it up, Really like you... From his very first tracks, he quickly established himself as one of the biggest names in this style, and has maintained this position with ease, thanks to the singular artistic vision he applies to his reggae, which is tinged with hip-hop, soul, R&B, trap, dub and even rock... always surprising, authentic and ahead of its time.
His unwavering talent has earned him several Grammy Award nominations and hundreds of concerts around the world and on the stages of the biggest festivals. Thanks to the creation of his collective The In.Digg.Nation, he has also played a major role in spreading the music of a whole new generation of Reggae Revival artists.
The last few years have been particularly prolific for Protoje, who is always on the lookout for cleverly thought-out concepts that go beyond the mere notion of an album. He began by releasing a trilogy of albums revolving around the idea of time: A matter of time, In search of lost time and Third time’s the charm, recorded in his home studio The Habitat, in the hills of Kingston. Each of these albums reflects a pivotal period in PROTOJE’s life, prompting new reflections and visions of the world, and personal and professional introspection as a man, father and artist.
In search of Zion came as a surprise, with a more rootsy, dub version of the 10 tracks on In search of lost time, for which PROTOJE called on the Zion I Kings crew, the famous Virgin Islands label with its distinctive artistic direction, which has produced most of Midnite’s albums, among others. He then hit the road with Tippy I, the label’s boss and highly talented producer, for a sound system tour.
His latest projects have been praised by the media far beyond Jamaica and reggae channels: Vogue, Billboard, the BBC, Trace TV, Le Monde, Télérama, Rolling Stone, Nova, FIP, Le Mouv’, RFI...
He also continues to tour the biggest festivals, including Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds, Rototom Sunsplash, Reggae Sumfest, Summerjam, Dour, Les Eurockéennes, Cabaret Vert, Boomtown Festival, Couleur Café, No Logo, Nancy Jazz Pulsations... He has played hundreds of concerts in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia...
Protoje's latest project, The Jamaican situation EP, features the debut of the soundtrack to a mini-film about the complexities of modern life in Jamaica, produced by Protoje and music video director Samo. At the same time, Protoje is working on his next album, scheduled for release in early 2026...
