Do you have jeans in your closet that you’ll never wear again? Why not turn them into something useful?
In this workshop, we will make a purse or a small basket that can be used to store various items such as cosmetics, art supplies, Ipad or anything else. We will cut, sew, and decorate them so each one becomes unique.
Textile designer Guðrún Borghildur will guide participants. She is trained as a biomedical scientist but has always had a passion for creative work. She sells her products, among other places, at Kirsuberjatréð.
Guðrún emphasizes upcycling in her design work, as the world’s supply of raw materials is not endless. She uses various types of textiles in her creations, such as old leather jackets, silk garments, and even old curtains. This time, the focus is on jeans or other denim clothing.
Participants should bring old jeans to use as materials. Some decorations, buttons, etc., will be available on-site, but people are encouraged to bring something fun to decorate with.
The City Library is participating in a three-year international project called make-a-thek. The aim of this project is to create a platform for creative and forward-thinking consumers (“prosumers”), where knowledge is shared and we learn together new methods, for example how to repair textiles, and get to know various crafts and techniques. This is a journey, and the destination is shaped by the participation of as many people as possible.
