Ancestral Mexican Natural Dye (Grana cochinilla) with visiting artist Aline González Moreno

Fab Lab Reykjavík welcomes you to a unique workshop in Grana cochinilla - Ancestral Mexican Natural Dye with artist Aline González Moreno, on Wednesday October 7th at 17:00-19:00.

Description:

In the workshop, participants will learn how to shift the pH of cochineal extract to create a vibrant spectrum of colors using a formulation theory that Aline will guide them through. First, they will create a sample color catalogue by painting over paper. Afterward, they will have time to create their own artwork on a postcard-sized paper.

Since the painted paper might still be slightly wet by the end of the session, participants are recommended to bring a small rigid base (like a piece of cardboard, MDF, or an old book) to transport their pieces safely. Normal everyday clothing should be fine, but you’re welcome to bring an apron to guard the clothing.

About the artist:

Aline González Moreno is a Mexican bio-artist, designer, and textile researcher, and the founder of the studio La Hacedora. Her work explores natural pigments, ancestral extraction techniques, and biocultural memory, bridging contemporary design with traditional artisanal practices through exhibitions and workshops internationally.
