Could It Be True?
An Interactive Storytime for Preschool Children
Can a piano really fall from the sky? And is everything we see and hear actually true?
In this interactive storytime, we explore rumors and learn how to tell the difference between facts and fiction. The session is based on the activity “I’ve Heard That a Piano Can Fall from the Sky”, originally developed for the Swedish information website Lajka.
During the storytime, we will also explore what artificial intelligence is and how technology can generate text, images, and information. Children will have the opportunity to consider whether everything they see and hear can be trusted, while learning to ask questions, look more closely at information, and think critically.
The aim of the storytime is to strengthen children’s information and media literacy on their own terms, while sparking curiosity about how we evaluate information and decide what to believe.
Thorunn Vignisdóttir leads the storytime session. She has worked for many years in public libraries, both in Reykjavík and Stockholm. She specializes in digital literacy, media literacy, and the creative use of technology with children and young people.
This event is part of Soft Networks – Digesting Information Together, a programme series supported by the Icelandic Library Fund. From 11th - 18th of October, Reykjavík City Library will offer a variety of events for children and families across all eight library branches as a lead-up to Media Literacy Week.
