In this creative and engaging course, participants will be introduced to the world of DJing and gain hands-on experience using the professional software Djay Pro. Additionally, they will learn fundamental techniques using a variety of DJ controllers that are universally applicable across all professional environments in the trade.
The course places emphasis on creativity, listening, and rhythm, while encouraging independent thinking and problem solving. By learning basic mixing skills such as key- and beatmatching, participants will be able to seamlessly transition between songs, building their first setlist with a professional flow.
No previous experience in music or technology is required, and all necessary equipment will be provided on site.
Benedikt Tómas Guðmundsson has a background in music and has released several songs while completing a degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Iceland. He has taught STEAM and creative technology courses for SKEMA at Reykjavik University. DJing brings these two fields together and is an excellent way to spark participants' passion for both creative technology and music.
Karl James Pestka holds two Bachelor of Music degrees in Composition and Electronic Music Performance and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Computer Science at the University of Iceland. He worked as a freeform radio DJ at WCBN FM Ann Arbor for two years and has recently collaborated with the DJ collective Spinni.org in Tampere, Finland. He sees DJing as a highly rewarding and creative endeavaor that anyone can enjoy, not only in clubs but also at home in one’s bedroom, for friends at house parties, and even in the sauna (which he has done under as saunamaster "Kalli á þakinu").
