Step back into Iceland’s medieval past with archaeologist Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir, who led the first excavation of the Viðey Monastery (1987–1995). This year marks 800 years since the monastery was founded in 1226 — and the discoveries from the dig remain some of the most remarkable evidence of monastic life in Iceland and Northern Europe.
Margrét is now writing a book on the history of Viðey and the excavation’s unique findings.
Ferry from Skarfabakki at 20:00, returning no later than 23:00.
The event is free, but ferry tickets must be purchased — buying ahead is recommended. Spoken language Icelandic.
