Pyramidiacs - Australian power pop since the 1980s

The Pyramidiacs originally formed in the late 1980s in the Sydney suburb of Fairfield. Their music has been described as 'upbeat power pop', with inspiration from 80s-90s acts such as the Plimsouls, dB's, Teenage Fanclub, Velvet Crush, Sloan, Material Issue, Fountains of Wayne and Matthew Sweet, along with classic power pop groups of yore like Big Star, the Raspberries, mid-era Beatles and the Who. The Pyramidiacs like their rock'n'roll with power chords, jangly-yet-crunchy guitars, catchy pop tunes and three-part harmonies.

The band's line-up has shifted several times over the years, but the core songwriters, Eddie Owen (guitar/vocals from the very beginning) and Mick O'Regan (guitar/keys/vocals since 1992) have been the constants. The current line-up brings back Bob Sunjara, bass maestro from the early days (1990-98), and welcomes in seasoned drummer Shane Melder (Sidewinder, Hummingbirds, Polaroids and more).

After a run of singles in the 1990s (such as Can't Keep a Hold of You and One More Time) they released the EPs Krunch (1993) and Superstar (1994) and the full-length album All You Want

(1995), all on the local garage/power pop label Zero Hour. In Australia the Pyramidiacs went largely ignored, but they received consistent airplay in Europe, and most particularly in Spain. This led to their first tour of Spain in 1995.

Three subsequent albums were released on Spanish labels-Teeter Totter (Ranezz, 1996), Teenage Complications (Rock Indiana, 1998) and Nobody's Fools (Rock Indiana, 2001)- each accompanied by further tours of Spain and occasional visits to France. Stuff'n'Junk, a double-CD compilation of hits, outtakes and rarities, was released by the Australian label Reverberation in 2005.

After two decades of sporadically re-forming only for special events, the Pyramidiacs are soon to release in Spain a 30* anniversary vinyl edition of their 1996 album Teeter Totter, and are once again rehearsing like mad for a tour of Spain in October/November 2026. There will be some pre-tour Sydney shows in September and October 2026.
