A collection of works in progress created during Shanks’ 8-week residency in Ísafjörður, exploring relationships between humanity and the Land, from the Settlement and into modern times. Inspired by local folklore and history, Spiritual Instinct offers a small glimpse into Shanks’ ongoing research on entangled connections between humans and more-than-humans beings.

Arcana Shanks is a Canadian visual artist and artist-researcher based in Montrèal. Shanks is inspired by the entangled connections between humans and more-than-human beings, particularly beings that exist beyond the traditional definitions of life such as wildfires, oceans, minerals, and biological entities. She seeks to leverage multi-disciplinary performance art and installations as transformative spaces that nurture critical introspection about the connections made between people, nature, place, and time.
